What Everyone Should Know About Trial

If you are ever involved in a personal injury case whether as a party, witness, juror or spectator, it is important to know what the judge won't tell you. In Illinois and Indiana, drivers are required by law to maintain liability insurance. Liability insurance means that should a crash occur between that driver and another driver, the driver will not be covered if they caused the crash, but the person that driver injured will be covered. This means the money being discussed at trial isn't that of the driver that caused the crash, but of that driver's insurance company.

It's a common error to believe insurance companies care. The truth is insurance companies have never profited as much as they are today and the profit margins continue to increase. This is because as citizens, we are required to maintain policies in accordance with our state laws. They increase prices more, yet pay those who are injured less for their medical bills and property damage. Insurance companies refuse to pay injured citizens who need and deserve the money they are hoarding. Because they refuse to pay what is owed, attorneys often have to take them to court to receive the amount of money justly owed to their clients.

Insurance defense attorneys represent the defendant but are paid by, and work for the insurance company. The person who caused the crash and injuries is very likely to have never met the attorney defending the case. The money belongs to the insurance company and the companies pay the attorneys to protect them from having to pay the injured person.
